For Yosemite RV camping, start with your equipment dimensions and travel dates. A campground’s maximum length is a screening tool; the specific site’s parking space and permitted equipment determine whether it is a useful option for your trip.
The practical sequence is to make a shortlist that fits your rig, inspect the individual sites, and then calculate the reservation release. This keeps a promising calendar result from turning into a booking for unsuitable equipment.
RV and trailer limits are different
NPS publishes separate RV and trailer limits for Yosemite campgrounds. A motorhome and a trailer of the same length can need different space for turning and parking. Use the limit for the equipment you will actually bring.
| Campground | Equipment limit | Published season |
|---|---|---|
| Upper Pines | 35 ft RV / 24 ft trailer | Open year-round (2026 schedule) |
| Lower Pines | 40 ft RV / 35 ft trailer | April 21–October 19, 2026 (tentative NPS dates) |
Camp 4 is a walk-in tent campground and does not accommodate RVs, trailers or vehicle sleeping. For the wider park, use the Yosemite campground comparison and confirm the official site record.
A 30-foot trailer: a worked example
A 30-foot motorhome is below Upper Pines’ 35-foot campground RV maximum. A 30-foot trailer exceeds its separate 24-foot trailer maximum. Lower Pines lists a 35-foot trailer maximum, so it belongs on that trailer’s initial shortlist when its season covers the trip.
This does not establish that any particular Lower Pines site fits. Open the site details and compare permitted equipment, parking-pad dimensions and the number of vehicles. A longer driveway does not automatically remove a separately stated equipment restriction.
Try the 30-foot trailer comparison. The tool covers ParkWatch’s listed campgrounds and includes trailer matches only where a separate limit is verified.
Check hookups, water and the campsite map
Yosemite campsites do not offer electrical, water or sewer hookups. A dump station is a separate facility, and its operation can change. NPS currently notes a closure of the Tuolumne Meadows dump station; check the latest facilities notice rather than assuming every listed service is operating.
Use the official Pines map link to understand the campground layout. Then inspect your chosen site’s provider record for its final approach and parking details. The map and a campground-wide maximum answer different planning questions.
Plan Yosemite RV camping reservations
Upper and Lower Pines use monthly releases at 7 a.m. Pacific time on the 15th. The arrival-date bands run from the 15th through the following 14th; simply subtracting five calendar months can give the wrong release date.
For example, the published recurring rule places a June 1, 2027 arrival in the January 15, 2027 release band. That calculation does not confirm the campground’s 2027 operating season or guarantee a site. Choose alternatives before the release and verify the rule again with NPS.
Calculate your booking release and download a calendar event. Once dates are released, check the full stay on the same site and complete the reservation with the official provider.
