Yosemite National Park Camping Reservations
Yosemite has 13 front-country campgrounds. In 2026, campground reservations and park-entry rules are separate: a campsite reservation is required for most spring-through-fall camping, but no reservation is required simply to enter Yosemite in 2026. The park entrance fee still applies.

Upper Pines, Lower Pines or Camp 4?
Upper Pines is the year-round Valley option in the verified 2026 schedule. It has 236 sites, with a campground maximum of 35 ft RV / 24 ft trailer. Lower Pines is smaller, with 74 sites and a 40 ft RV / 35 ft trailer maximum; its 2026 season is April 21–October 19, 2026 (tentative NPS dates). Check the selected site’s dimensions rather than relying on these maximums.
Both Pines campgrounds use the same monthly reservation release and offer water and restrooms without campsite hookups. Use the official combined Pines campground map to compare their layout and access near Curry Village.
Camp 4 suits walk-in tent camping. It uses shared sites, a per-person fee and a much shorter reservation window. It does not accommodate vehicle sleeping, RVs or trailers.

How to Book a Campsite
- Upper Pines, Lower Pines, North Pines, Wawona, and Hodgdon Meadow generally release reservable dates 5 months ahead on the 15th.
- Camp 4 uses a 1-week advance window. The 2026 reservation season is extended until November 29; November 28 is the last reservable night. It is tent-only.
- Several seasonal campgrounds use 2-week advance reservations. Tuolumne Meadows combines a 2-month window with an additional 14-day release.
- From spring through fall, Yosemite does not offer first-come, first-served front-country camping. In winter, Camp 4, Hodgdon Meadow, and Wawona may operate first-come, first-served.
Choose the Right Part of the Park
- Yosemite Valley: Upper Pines, Lower Pines, North Pines, and Camp 4 offer the closest access to Valley destinations.
- South of the Valley: Wawona and Bridalveil Creek suit travelers entering from Highway 41.
- North and high country: Hodgdon Meadow, Crane Flat, Tamarack Flat, White Wolf, Yosemite Creek, Porcupine Flat, and Tuolumne Meadows trade Valley proximity for quieter or higher-elevation settings.
RV, Tent & Campground Rules
Sleeping in a vehicle is allowed only in a registered campsite—not in parking areas or along roads.
Yosemite campgrounds have no electric, water, or sewer hookups. The Upper Pines dump station operates year-round and Wawona operates seasonally. NPS currently lists the Tuolumne Meadows dump station as closed.
Generator hours are limited to 7–9 a.m., noon–2 p.m., and 5–7 p.m.
Food must be stored according to bear-safety rules; hard-sided RV storage is allowed only when food is out of sight and the vehicle is secured.
Yosemite National Park Camping FAQ
How do I choose between Upper Pines, Lower Pines and Camp 4?
Compare Upper Pines for year-round Valley camping, Lower Pines for a smaller seasonal campground, and Camp 4 for walk-in tent camping charged per person. Match your equipment to the specific site before booking.
What if Yosemite camping reservations are unavailable?
Check other campgrounds and dates on the official provider. NPS recommends checking for cancellations and using Recreation.gov availability alerts when offered. A ParkWatch snapshot does not reserve or hold a campsite.
Do you need reservations to camp in Yosemite in 2026?
Yes for most front-country camping from spring through fall. A campground reservation is separate from a park-entry reservation; Yosemite does not require a reservation simply to enter the park in 2026.
When do Yosemite campground reservations open?
The release schedule depends on the campground. Major Valley campgrounds generally release 5 months ahead on the 15th, Camp 4 uses a 1-week window, and several seasonal campgrounds use 2-week windows.
Can you camp in Yosemite without a reservation?
Not in front-country campgrounds from spring through fall. In winter, Camp 4, Hodgdon Meadow, and Wawona may offer first-come, first-served camping.
How much does it cost to camp in Yosemite?
Most standard 2026 campground fees are $24–$36 per night. Camp 4 is $10 per person. Always confirm current fees on the official booking page.
Which Yosemite campgrounds allow RVs?
Ten Yosemite campgrounds can accommodate RVs or trailers, but length limits vary by individual site. Camp 4 and Tamarack Flat do not allow RVs.
